Why should I pay for Colloquies?

This is a service with real costs. Servers, storage, and maintenance all scale with usage. Most apps finance themselves through ads or by selling your data. We're choosing a different path: a sustainable, privacy-first model where you're the customer, not the product. Your payment directly supports development and keeps your conversations truly private.

Why not make it completely free with ads?

Ads would fundamentally compromise what Colloquies is about. We'd need to track your behavior, optimize for engagement over wellbeing, and turn your intimate conversations into data points. Instead, we offer a generous free tier so anyone can use Colloquies meaningfully, while paid plans support ongoing development and keep the service sustainable.

What happens to Colloquies if I don't upgrade?

The free tier is designed to be genuinely useful forever and not a limited trial. Paid subscribers enable us to keep the free tier generous and the service running for everyone. If you find value in Colloquies and want to support its continued development, upgrading helps ensure we can keep building thoughtful features instead of chasing growth at any cost.

Will prices change in the future?

We're committed to keeping pricing transparent and fair. If you subscribe now, your rate is locked in—we'll never increase it for existing subscribers. Any price changes would only apply to new subscribers, and we'll always communicate openly about our reasoning.

Can I switch plans anytime?

Yes! Upgrade or downgrade anytime. Changes take effect immediately, and we'll prorate any adjustments through your app store subscription.

How long is my message history kept?

On any plan, every message you've already received stays on your device for as long as the app is installed. We never auto-delete messages locally. The cloud-side window is what changes between tiers:

• Free: in circles you host, our servers keep the last 90 days of messages. Older messages are removed from the cloud, but stay on every device that already has them. A new device or fresh install will only re-sync the last 90 days from those circles.
• Core: cloud-side history for circles you host never expires. A new device or fresh install pulls the full history.

What happens to my data if I downgrade?

Nothing on your device is ever deleted. Every message you've already received stays in the app. The only change is that, in circles you host, our 90-day cloud retention starts to apply again — so over time, older messages roll off the server (but remain on every device that already has them). If a payment lapses unexpectedly, Core protections continue for a 7-day grace window before anything changes.

How do I subscribe to a paid plan?

All subscriptions are managed through in-app purchases on iOS (Apple App Store) or Android (Google Play Store). Simply download the app and upgrade from within your account settings.

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept all payment methods supported by Apple App Store and Google Play Store, including credit/debit cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, and carrier billing where available.
